The 20th anniversary of The Leap Year Show with Jim is here and so is the Leap Year Show 2020! The Jammin’ with Jim free internet radio program debuted in 2000 on February 29th with a promise to record a show every four years on the leap day. After forgetting to do a show in 2004, the tradition officially continued in 2008 with additional shows each leap day in 2012, 2016 and now 2020.

Jim at the Leap Year Show 2020

This year’s theme is the Top 25 Songs that Jim discovered over the past four years. Now, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the songs came out in the last four years- some songs are older but Jim just learned about them in the time since the last Leap Year Show!

The show features songs from Goo Goo Dolls, Weezer, Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney, ELO, Barenaked Ladies, Jake Shears and many more. Yes, the countdown may be arbitrary, but it’s a fun way to hear some great songs. We’d love to see what everyone thinks of the countdown and if you would have ranked the songs in a different order!

The difference was in the format of the show. The Leap Year Show 2016 plays like an impatient listener switching between stations to find only the best of what’s on. So, you hear short skits and one-liners followed by a quick change of the “station” back to another great song. Ron Popeil makes another classic appearance and there are many other skits and promos that show the comedy doesn’t stop just because Jim can’t get around to doing a show more than once a leap-year. We hope you enjoy this year’s installment!

Had four more years really gone by that quickly? 2016 arrived and it was time for another radio show. Jim set out to do something a little different this time…

Like last time, the show consisted of songs and artists that Jim first heard between the last show and this one. It’s an eclectic mix of bands old and new and it’s great that Jim’s musical library continues to expand!

Back again for another Leap Year Show in 2012 and this was another classic! Jim created a new format for the show, where he combined pre-recorded skits and commercials between songs. The result is a well-polished radio show that allowed Jim’s creative side to show through again.

The show features music that Jim found out about between 2008 and 2012. Some were bands that he started listening to, like the Scissor Sisters and Elton John. Others, like a new song from Ringo Starr, were just the latest from his favorite artists. There’s quite an array of music on this show, from Goo Goo Dolls to Rush. The skits and commercials are the other focus of the Leap Year Show 2012. This show features a Subway commercial, a special Law & Order SVU spoof, and even a brand new product from Ron Popeil of RONCO. Jeff also joins the show again via “live phone feed”, as he did for the Leap Year Show in 2008. As an even that only happens every four years, Jim knew this one had to be great- he delivered and now it’s up to you to click the links above and enjoy!

In 2000, Jim vowed to do a Leap Year Show every four years. Well, 2004 came and went, as WCJM had hit a dry spell. But now, equipped with a new studio, a new website, and a ton of ambition, Jim’s back with an extra-special Leap Year Show 2008!

This show has a TON of songs from great bands including The Beach Boys, Stone Temple Pilots, the Wallflowers, and many more. The show also features a special Traffic and Weather segment, the Police Blotter, Stupid People of America, Jim’s Sit Down Comedy routine, and Jeff via Live Phone Feed! It’s a fast-paced show that’s sure to please.

Jim had a ton of fun doing this show and it came out so well that he’s planning on doing more than just a show every four years! This show, as it was with the first Leap Year Show, was a day of Jim’s famous twin-spins, so you can hear more than just one song from each great band. We hope you enjoy this show and will continue to celebrate the Leap Year Day WCJM-style!

The Bob Dylan Show

Jim and Chris got together to do a show with a very specific theme. Bob Dylan is Chris’ favorite artist, but Jim tends to like the Bob Dylan songs that he wrote, but other people performed! After a little looking, Jim and Chris noticed that there a TON of Dylan songs covered by other bands. So, they decided to do a whole show dedicated to the Bob Dylan songs that other people made famous.

This show is very unique because it features long-forgotten cameo appearances by Jeff and Mike, plus a great Stuffy D. Bear segment! Jim and Chris couldn’t decide if this was a “Jammin’ with Jim” or a “Chris Show” broadcast, so they decided to make it both! Or, as they call it, the “Jammin’ with Chris” and the “Jim Show.”

Whatever the title, this show actually proves that Chris may have some taste in music. Dylan is a great songwriter, but his singing and style of music may not be everyone’s cup of tea. But, with songs from the Turtles, the Beach Boys, and Jimi Hendrix, this show will prove that Dylan’s songs are much more than meaningless words put to a high-flying Minnesota accented-voice and an acoustic guitar.

Jeff went to college at the University of Connecticut, and on January 21, 2001, he was scheduled to go back for the second semester of the year. So, on the day before he went back, he went to the WCJM studio to do a show with Jim . Mike, who was sick with the flu, could not participate in the show, so Jim and Jeff had to go solo. This show was done with only a few hours of preparation, but the end result is a great radio show.

But like every WCJM show, this one needed a theme. A month back, Jim was supposed to do a show with , but they never ended up doing it. The show was supposed to be their own version of the Chris/Alberto Preshow. But since the Song for the New Millennium Show had already been done, there would be no sense in doing a PRE-show. So, being as creative as they are, they decided to do a POST-game show! This show has all of Jim’s favorite songs, along with features like Ronco, a comedy routine, and a Top Ten list why this show is better than the Chris Show. This is a soon to be classic with a classic duo- Jim and Jeff!

With the debut of Stuffy the Bear on the World Series Show, the whole cast knew he would be a big hit. With his soothing tone of voice and humorous wit, Stuffy decided that he wanted to do a show with “The Funny Lookin’ Kid”- aka, Jim . This show would be a show based solely on animal songs, commemorating Stuffy’s first co-hosted show. With songs ranging from See You Later Alligator to Teddy Bear (Stuffy’s favorite song), this show combines great music from many artists with the absolute hilarity of Stuffy the Bear.

This show was done digitally on a MiniDisc, and is a very unique show full of comedy and great music!

The first real Jammin’ with Jim show was done because Jim’s friend asked him for a couple of songs that Jim already had in his collection. But of course, he couldn’t just tape those songs, he had to make a radio show! So the real Jammin’ with Jim show was born. This is the first WCJM broadcast to be recorded digitally, as Jim recorded the show onto a MiniDisc. But, this is also the first show to be put on a CD, because it was transferred after the MD was recorded.

This show was done on February 29th, 2000 on the day that is added to the year every four years. So, as Jim said on the air, “It’s a weird kind of show, on a weird kind of day, with a weird kind of guy- that’s me, Jim .” This was a show full of twin spins, where two songs from the same artist are played in a row. Jim vowed to make this show an every four year tradition, but of course, he forgot in 2004. So, maybe a double-length show is in order for 2008!

This show was the first ever Jammin’ with Jim show, and was done because Chris didn’t have copies of the first five shows, and wanted to remember them all. So Jim sat down one day with all of the shows and went through them, using clips from each show. It’s a great highlight show to listen to and to hear how every show evolved into something more professional each time.

JAMMIN’ WITH JIM

WCJM Free Internet Radio FAQ:

Who is Jim and why is he jammin’?

Jim is the producer and webmaster for WCJM free Internet radio.  The free Internet radio station has been the closest to his heart of all his projects and he has spent countless hours planning and producing radio shows, designing and creating web pages, and promoting the WCJM radio station.  And yet, he has still found time to produce independent radio shows under the title of “Jammin’ with Jim.”  Why Jammin’?  Well, as Jim says, for obvious alliteration purposes.  And this says a lot about his own personal comedy radio show – it’s his opportunity to “jam,” playing the songs he loves and creating new and hilarious standup comedy and comedy skits.

What is “Jammin’ with Jim” like?

While this is a solo show, Jim often invites special guests on during some portion of the WCJM radio show.  Stuffy D. Bear has been a regular contributor to the “Jammin’ with Jim” show, as well as fellow morning show cast members Chris and Jeff.  He includes standup comedy routines during the broadcast, as well as comedy skits wherever possible.

What is “The Leap Year Show” all about and why are there two?

“The Leap Year Show” is one of the traditions of the “Jammin’ with Jim” comedy radio show.  Unfortunately missing 2004, Jim recorded a leap year-themed radio show in 2000 and then returned to the mixing board in 2008 for an updated leap year show.  He plans to continue the tradition forever!

What does “Jammin’ with Jim” have to offer the Internet radio community?

As he has often promised during free funny radio show broadcasts, Jim thinks it is the primary function of a free Internet radio station to provide quality comedy skits and standup comedy for all to listen and enjoy.  If you haven’t heard the morning shows before, you might want to check out the “Jammin’ with Jim” show called “Highlights of MHITM.”  This is a great initiation for anyone who is not familiar with the cast – Jim , Mike , Chris, Alberto, Dave, Matt, and Jeff – and special guests – Stuffy D. Bear, Palumbi, Dr. K, Don Foghorn, John Daley, MacGuyver Wilson, and so many more – of the WCJM free Internet radio morning show!
